The mill that never switched to synthetic

Most linen mills in the region converted in the 1980s. This one did not. The owner will tell you it was stubbornness. Her granddaughter will tell you it was vision.

The flax is Belgian. The looms are from 1962 and have not been replaced because there is nothing to replace them with that does the work as well. The mechanics who maintain them are retired and come in as a favour.

The cloth that comes off these looms has a weight and drape that modern production cannot reproduce. It softens with washing and gets better with age. That is not marketing. It is just what linen does when it is made correctly.
